Much better than I anticipated.A stellar performance by Caine who plays a boozed up literary Prof(I'm not usually a fan of Caine)and a gobby lass (Julie Walters) in despertae need to better herself educationally.
Despite the shrill scouse brogue Walters is great.Avoids being sentimental and has some very fine bitter sweet comedic scenes.Sadly it has a woeful soundtrack which sounds like it was played on a drunk casio.
Otherwise a very good film.
