Review of Edmond (2006) by Katie C — 17 Oct 2008
Really dark. Do not watch when depressed. This is not a fluffy happy moral tale. Its a gritty, dark, nasty and sometimes funny warning about the whole "Grass is greener on the other side" way of thinking.
Macy is fantastic as Edmond. Stuart Gordon's Direction pitches comedy and drama perfectly. Its great to see him do something thats not Horror or Sci-Fi or even a Lovecraft adaption. It does seem to lose its drive a little in the last 15 minutes however this is not a massive problem at all.
The script is fast and at times repetitive, however this is not a bad thing as it creates a real sense of frustration for the character of Edmond. I hope Gordon moves into this field of film making more often and I also hope this is a good sign of a high standard for House of Re-animator.
