Review of Edmond (2006) by Sammie C — 21 Jul 2007
Mament does "dark" and it doesn't really work. Begins as an intriguing dark nigh of the soul but quickly becomes a slave to it's own tedious themes. It's characters are mouthpieces for Mamet's mostly uninspiring nihilistic rants - and it thinks it's way, way more shocking that it thinks it is.
That they don't show the only sex scene is frankly, as definitionally a beajouis sell-out as when Spacey doesn't have sex with Suari in American Beauty. By the utterly hilarious (intentionally???) ending the film has long since lost any semblance of power.
An interesting, deeply flawed oddity at best.
