Review of Edge of Sanity (1989) by Lyndsey C — 30 Dec 2006
I recently bought the movies Edge of Sanity and Dominator. However, I decided to write a review about Edge of Sanity first. This film is Jekyll and Hyde meets Jack the Ripper.
It stars Anthony Perkins as the repressed Dr. Jekyll and the devious Jack Hyde. The movie starts showing Perkin's character of Henry Jekyll as a child. He is watching his father have sex with a woman. While watching he falls and is hanging by his feet only to be beaten by his father while the woman laughs sadistically at him. Then the scene cuts to Henry as an adult. He is now a well respected doctor. He begins lab experiments on cocaine. When a lab monkey tampers with the substance he gets a big whiff of it and transforms into the evil Jack Hyde who begins terrorizing London by slashing prostitutes throats and engaging in very kinky orgies.
I thought this movie was really good. This to me was Anthony Perkins at his best. I thought he was great as Norman Bates in the original Psycho and its sequels, but this was by far his best role, I love the part where he is having dinner with his friends and he shocks them by saying, "If there is a piece of food I want I take it *slams fork down on a piece of meat on a friends plate*. If there is a woman I want, I take her *grabs his friend's wife's hand*>". His friend replies asking what if he wants to arrest him. Jekyll says coolly, "You gotta catch me first.". I thought it was interesting that they made Hyde as Jack the Ripped as well. Overall this movie is worth 10 outta 10.
