Review of Eden (2015) by Peter F — 27 Jun 2015
An ambitious and sensitive look into the life progressions of an artist, that's more authentic than most music bio-pics could hope to be. Set in France's EDM scene from the 1990s to the present (Daft Punk fans will get a real kick out of that), the film gives viewers a bird's eye view into the culture, augmented by a story that's more interested in reiterating on the aging process, rather than dramatizing.
As we see our character grow, and eventually become disenfranchised with his lifestyle, the film actually shows a bit of a "Boyhood" stigma to it, as it's strongest as a nostalgia trip. Some areas of the film seem heavy-handed or stylistically uneven (an animated sequence in the beginning comes to mind), but all-in-all Eden is an effective international film, and a must-see for music fans.
