Review of Eddie the Eagle (2016) by Peter E — 11 Apr 2016
Eddie the Eagle is based on the true story of Michael Edwards, the athlete who defide the odds to become the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic Ski Jumping in the 1988 Calgory Winter Olympics.
Starring Taron Egerton as the hapless hero and Hugh Jackman as his coach, this is the sort of movie that you could happily watch on a Sunday afternoon at Christms nice enough that it won't offend your nan.
Even though this is based on a real person about 95% of the film is fiction, however this doesn't get in the way of a good yarn and for the most part you are willing Eddie on, especially in the final third of the movie.
For the actors presents it's not much of a stretch and it's got every "man against the odds" cliche going from the bullying teammate to the authority figure who tries to put an obstacle in the way of our hero at every turn. This comes in the form of Tim McInnerny who is on fine "Captain Darling" form.
To sum this film up in a word it would be "nice" and there's not much wrong with that.
