Review of Eddie the Eagle (2016) by Jimmy H — 11 Jun 2016
Bog standard sports drama that's just about edgy, and sweet enough, to be worthwhile. Hugh Grant's alcoholic character is way over the top, referring to his flask alternately as 'my jacket' and 'my breakfast' - plus, how are we supposed to buy a man in his shape, and with his complexion, as someone THAT constantly drunk? Silly.
But he brings a legitimacy to the film that Taron Egerton couldn't quite do alone, despite being perfectly fine as Eddie. If you really, *really* enjoy underdog sports movies and haven't caught a good one in a while, Eddie the Eagle is worth your time.
But if you want to watch something fun AND truly powerful, that won't slip from your brain two hours after seeing it, check out Win Win instead.
