Review of Eddie the Eagle (2016) by Moviegainz — 29 Mar 2016
Eddie the Eagle. Here is my review on the feel-good movie. I went into this movie not really know much about it other than it is based on real events and it is inspiring. I would never of thought a movie about ski jumping would come close to entertaining me for an 1 and 45 minutes.
The movie knows exactly what it needs to be and it succeeds in doing so, it may play it a little too safe at times but it is a biopic after all. The cliches in the movie are very recognizable but it is a crucial part of the story and serves the story rather than make it laughable.
There are some bad stuff in the movie, such as the jump by Hugh Jackmans character. The pacing is a tad off at times, but other than those issues I really enjoyed this movie. Character development is really good, I understood both Eddie and Bronsons motivations, and I cared about their characters and was rooting for both of them come the final act.
The father-son relationship is heavy but not overused. Taron Egerton, the future young han solo (I hope) is brilliant in this role as the determined and courageous Michael 'Eddie' Edwards. Hugh Jackman is Hugh Jackman in this role as Hugh Jackman.
Hugh Jackman doesn't have much range when it comes to his acting performances, so I felt like he was playing the same character from his other non-X-men movies. Overall, this movie really surprised me.
It is extremely inspiring. Most biopic movies are dark, gritty, dull and serious. However this biopic is fun and gets away with it. I am going to give Eddie the Eagle a 8/10.
