Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Anssi V — 10 Oct 2011
A fascinating movie about one of the worst directors of all time. Johnny Depp makes a good role as Ed Wood and he's one of the most enjoyable aspects of this film. His expressions are over the top, his voice just drips naivety and at the same time there's just something terribly likable about him.
You feel drawn to him and his enthuasiam. But the rest of the story is a bit... well, dull. I enjoyed the tale of friendship between Ed Wood and Béla Lugosi (Martin Landau), but the rest of the film is just Ed making horrible movies.
It just isn't that interesting. And yes, I do admit that this is more of a character study rather than a story about real-life events, but while Depp and Landau are enjoyable to watch... I don't know, it's just that I was left feeling bored when the movie ended.
And that's never a good thing.
