Review of Ed Wood (1994) by Jasmine C — 30 Sep 2010
I've seen several Tim Burton films, and none of them have failed me. But this one is by far the best. Johnny Depp is perfect as Ed Wood, and it is clear to see why he is constantly used by Tim Burton and also why he is one of the biggest actors to this date.
He plays Ed Wood with likability and honesty, making the character a pleasure to watch. Martin Landau also gives a performance that definitely deserved the Oscar he got for it. He is sincere and amusing at the same time.
Often I have problems with dramedies, as they seem to come across as inconsistent. But thankfully, this film is the perfect combination of the two, making it the best dramedy I've ever seen. The story is also pretty accurate to true events while also being extremely entertaining.
I don't normally mention this in reviews, but the soundtrack was flawlessly fused together with the scenes as well. Overall, I recommend it for anybody who wants to be a filmmaker; it's inspirational and entertaining.
