Review of Eating Raoul (1982) by Shelley F — 15 Mar 2008
An excellent cult classic and terrific black comedy about a bland married couple (played by cult icons Mary Woronov and Paul Bartell, who also directed), ironically called the Blands that accidentally kill a man one night (with a large frying pan) only to discover a wad of cash in his wallet, and soon, they are taking the large frying pan to others and building a large sum of money to open a business, until one day a man named Raoul finds out what they are doing and wants in on the piece of the pie.
This film is terrific. I love Paul Bartell films which were the very definition of grindhouse films (he also directed Cannonball and the soon to be remade Death Race 2000). Also, his dry wit and deadpan sense of humor was always a treat (usually playing stuck up and tightly-wound characters).
This is a great film, overall.
