Review of Eaten Alive (1976) by Adam P — 25 Jan 2008
About as far away from masterpiece status as you can get, considering Hooper started with a piece of brilliance like 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. This shares quite a few qualities, though instead of atmospheric raw dread, this time it's styled like Douglas Sirk in Hillbilly Hell.
Marilyn Burns once again spends most of her screen time being bound or bludgeoned, there's a brief chase through the woods and a manically paced finale, but instead of the classy macabre of 'TCM', this is sleazy exploitation full of tits and blood.
It's interesting, but not even to the crazy caliber of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2'. Only for grindhouse completists.
