Review of Eat Pray Love (2010) by Nick P — 21 Jun 2014
Julia Roberts gives her most Julia Roberts performance but maybe that's not such a bad thing. She is very solid as Liz Gilbert, but considering how I did not like this character very much or had any emotional support or sympathy for her, I wasn't impressed. She wasn't a mean person but it seem like all she ever did was whine and whine.
Eat Pray Love is all about Liz Gilbert trying to find her meaning in life and to escape herself. This could have been an excellent movie but you also wonder why it feels so unnecessary. It's tedious and repetitive throughout most parts and overlong. Plus, I wasn't sure where this movie was headed and while Roberts, being the chemistry queen, fails at that with Javier Bardem, who was just there. It just did not make that much sense to me.
