This is most definitely an American movie. Is it THE American movie? I don't know. However, it's a seminal film of the late 60s and even into the 70s. It follows two men who are heavy into the counterculture movement of the time.

The protagonists are on a journey through the American Southwest and South to be free. Their destination is Mardi Gras, but along the way they find themselves at a hippie commune, having fireside chats with some interesting people, and.

..well I won't spoil where it goes. The performances are pretty good, with Jack Nicholson standing out above all the rest. The drug use is excessive and I am led to believe that they used real drugs multiple times if not almost every time they (the drugs) were onscreen.

Anyways there are a few choice moments that I really dug. A few involved southerners who weren't really fans of how our protagonists looked with their long hair and strange clothes. That really showed the signs of the time, BUT in many places in the US that is still prevalent today which kinda makes me angry.

Other than the few moments and FREAKING GREAT soundtrack, Easy Rider is a good film to watch if you want to get a look at what the counterculture did for America during that period.
