The film that single handedly launched the new hollywood of the 70s. Revolutionary, in terms of its antiestablishment tone and portrayal of the 60s, as well as its awesome soundtrack. The editing was very bizarre, though.

There were a lot of very quick and seemingly random cuts that didn't detract from the film, but distracted me. But once Nicholson comes in it doesn't really matter. Jack Nicholson has a great performance, and the movie becomes quite interesting during his appearance.

Having just learned about how the film was made, and how absolutely bat-shit crazy Dennis Hopper was, helped me appreciate the film more. Unfortunately, because film has advanced so much since the 60s, the revolutionary aspect of the movie has been dulled.

It's not a classic, but it's certainly a really good film that opened the door for greatness.
