Review of Easy Rider (1969) by Deke P — 20 Aug 2015
There may have been two movies in Easy Rider. The first one is what I watched and the second is the one I noticed when watching the special features. The movie I watched was a through back film to a drug-fueled love-fest which is not really the sort of movie I typically go in for.
Listening to Dennis Hopper and Henry Fonda explain what they were intending with the picture show the death of the American dream while highlighting all of the dripping symbolism that I completely missed showed me the second, better, film.
Two things that really saved the, first, film form me was the cinematography by Laszlo Kovacs and it is very clear to see what scenes were filmed before he came on to the production. The second is the soundtrack, which speaks for itself.
I wish I really understood why I missed these moments, looking back over everything and how nothing has really changed is very sad, why not? I don't know. Can it? Probably not.
I cannot shake the gas tank image.
