Great movie, but the ending really got to me. Were they taking acid? And what's with the bad trips? Fonda's character clearly had emotional issues, some that related to his mother, but we never got to see behind any of it.
Dennis Hopper is probably the easiest to read of characters, and of course all of the acting was top-notch. But the ending...just seemed really stupid, and abrupt. Reminded me of the ending to Brokeback Mountain.
I kinda felt cheated. Oh wells.
