Review of Eastern Promises (2007) by Ryan P — 31 Dec 2012
Viggo Mortensen = wow. That sauna fight scene has to go down as one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen an actor do. Kudos, man. Lots of respect. Vincent Cassel also impressed in a great supporting performance.
Loved Naomi Watts in ''21 Grams'' and ''King Kong,'' but she lacked something here. She never convinced me for some reason. Cronenberg's directing is pretty good, and though it doesn't feel as crisp as his previous outing, ''A History of Violence,'' his realism style of storytelling really adds a lot to the story (which is brilliant, btw).
A dark, suspenseful crime-thriller. Thumbs way up.
