Review of Easter Parade (1948) by Jenni-Li D — 10 Jun 2012
A good film when taken as a classic however I'm a left yearning for a resolution for Johnny (whom I felt was very sporting considering he was spurned for a colder heart, and yet he stayed supportive to Hannah throughout the entirety of the film) and Nadine who can almost be seen as a villain in this production fails to even appear after her final number... Its a wonderful movie filled with amazing talent however aside from one or two songs, they add very little to the plot... (something which I think happened a great deal at the time. For example "Shorty George" from "You Were Never Lovelier" a personal favorite of mine and another Fred Astaire film, and the "classic" "dream sequence" and dance from Singing In the Rain...
Perhaps I'm being to Critical but I do think that had the musical numbers provided more information as to the story and the side stories revolving around Johnny and Nadine been resolved I would have no problems giving this wonderful movie a 5/5. But what can I say? This movie does have its flaws, still a great watch for the younger generation I think though and a well loved classic.
Overall 3/5 stars.
