Review of East of Eden (1955) by Garrett M — 04 Mar 2011
Few films can have such a powerful emotional impact on audiences as this adaption of John Steinbeck's classic novel. Though the Biblical telling of Cain and Abel differs from Steinbeck's similar story in both moral and plot, East of Eden is still an incredible film.
Elia Kazan's direction coupled with James Dean's phenomenal debut starring role (one of three) makes the picture a special experience. The touching narrative is laid out with themes of jealousy and judgment that have the potential to overwhelm viewers, movingly or despisingly.
It is outstanding, emotional, captivating, and spoke to me on volumes of levels.
