Review of East of Eden (1955) by Will D — 22 Jul 2009
To be honest, I found the charaterization to be a bit messy. That's not to say the acting isn't good (it's very good), but the motivations of certain characters weren't very clear; some of them had their personalities transformed with little warning, leaving the viewer wondering 'what the hell happened?'.
But it's a good film, and I liked many aspects of it - particularly the biblical themes of good/bad, the prodigal son etc. I still can't decide if it was being preachy.
