Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Steve G — 01 Jul 2014
I'm very appreciative that I saw this film at a free advanced screening and that I didn't have to actually pay for this film. Talk about a disappointment. The concept is strong but the execution is very weak.
All of the very cool special effects are at the end. The focus was way more on the poorly written one dimensional pre-teens than on Echo. The entire film is unknown actors. The design of Echo is very cute but not shown enough.
I would recommend this film to Screenwriters as to what not to do and to show them that ANY film if sold properly can be made. Being a Screenwriter I could of written a stronger script in my sleep. This movie felt like written on a whim with very little time spent on truly connecting the dots and thinking things through.
There was no subplot(s) which made it more boring. There was no character arch/character development. The struggle wasn't intense enough. The children did not have any unique lines that grabbed your attention.
If it wasn't moving at a good pace I would of feel asleep from boredom. Would I recommend this film to a person not a Screenwriter? With a warning to be aware of minimal entertainment. =).
