Review of Earth to Echo (2014) by Christopher R — 26 Jul 2014
This movie was way better than I had originally expected. With great CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), story, and performances this movie has become my most underestimated movie of 2014. The trailers that were released gave off an E.T. like vibe adventure with the characters. It made me feel like they were trying to recapture the same cinematic essence that E.T. had for its time. After watching the movie an argument can be made for it being the best modern day version of our classic E.T.
Synopsis.
The movie begins with one of our main characters Tuck (Astro). He is a YouTube video log maker that narrates the story throughout the progression of the movie, and speaks to the audience. The other characters Alex(Teo Halm), and Munch(Reese C. Hartwig) are all friends of Tuck that play significant roles in the movie. They're technical difficulties with their electronic devices bring them together to find out what is causing the problem. As the story moves on the audience is introduced to another main character Emma, (Ella Wahlestedt) who assists the boys in accomplishing the tasks that lay ahead of them. The alien Echo communicates with them and tries to steer the group of characters in the right direction to help him get home.
Pros.
The movie had solid performances from the actors.
Intriguing concepts for the movie.
CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) was fantastic.
Motives for the characters were established.
Cons.
The movie was not original it had a familiar story line (Steven Spielberg's E.T.).
Shaky camera was distracting at times.
My Final Thoughts.
This movie was a modern take on the story of E.T. I would highly recommend it because of its humor, story, and solid performances. If you enjoy a good sci-fi movie with the ability to relate to not just adults, but to kids as well, then this family friendly movie is for you.
My Score: 7/10.
