Review of Dynamite Chicken (1971) by Michael T — 06 Aug 2011
Wow this is one weird little movie! Pryor pops up quite a lot to tell jokes about the culture of the 70's which is about the most normal part of this movie! The rest of it is broken down into topics that were big in the 70's because they were just breaking in (womens lib, police violence, vietnam, etc) with different types of people commenting on them.
Then its full if weird segways and clips from old movies, adverts, shot for the movie comedy sketches, music and just plain crazy stuff! Theres a fair bit of random nudity either which will keep some people happy I guess! Loads of weird arthouse and experimental shots which whizz through the movie.
Theres famous people here to (some you'll know some you'll not!) who pass commentary and jokes depending on what the section is. Its an interesting time capsule about what types of things were going on in that time era.
They certainly do not make them like this anymore! The only problem is that its a bit to weird and some people may feel alienated just because its such a maverick production. Some of it has aged badly to! But its never boring!
