Review of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2011) by Ulrika B — 29 Jul 2011
Not a bad movie, but I rented it with the understanding it was probably not higher than a B movie. The special effects were mundane, the acting was mundane and I felt that the screenplay didnt allow much of the intended character or feel of the story to come through. The story line was one we're all used to; the reluctant hero (and cheesy sidekick) get caught up in some grand evil scheme and eventually hero gets worked up-normally over a woman in distress- and turns into some kinda badass, kicking evil doers all over the place and winning the day.
What I did find refreshing and interesting was he idea that Dylan was a mediator for the creatures of the night. The only human trusted with their existance and givin the ability to regulate and investigate their in-house troubles.
I didn't like the love interest plot. Dylan turns down flat a hot, half naked damsel in distres because he's still torn emotionally over his dead love. Then suddenly, without much character growth at all, at least that came out on screen, they get all hot and bothered and it's on. Didn't seem believable.
I thought Routh could have done a much better job, he seemed to fit the role, with a stonger script. I like the Huntingtons character and his portrayal.
Good rental though. 3/5 stars.
