Review of Duplicity (2009) by Rory A — 03 Mar 2011
I love Julia Roberts. I really do. On really bad days when I feel like crying and I think the world is out to get me, I pop in My Best Friends Wedding, Erin Brokovich, Oceans 12, Closer or Steel Magnolias and let my feeling go.
Julia makes me smile, laugh, cry and yell, she helps me through it....but not this time. I wanted to love this movie, I really, really did. Clive is hot, Julia is GORGEOUS but the damn movie was confusing as hell.
We're in the present, we're ten years ago, we're in the future, we're five years back, She hates him, she loves him, they're strangers but they're not. Jesus, you need mapquest to keep up with all this.
By the time I figured out just what was up and what was down, the movie was over and I was left, dazed and confused, much like the two of them in those chairs at the end. Only I didn't have flutes of champagne to numb the pain.
Obviously Julia wanted the whole Oceans 12 thing to happen again. It's intelligent, witty, sexy and, at times, charming, but all the damn plot twists just make it too muddled and cloudy. Skip it. Better yet, rent Out of Sight with J-lo and George Clooney.
.a superior sexy caper with just as much class and charm.
