Review of Duplicity (2009) by Ronnie C — 04 Jan 2010
Surprisingly entertaining. I'm annoyed when movies work hard to be confusing and this one does it overtime. But the actors are engaging, the pacing alert and the story not at all insulting. (A little twist introduced at the end is eye roll inducing, but it doesn't ruin the movie.).
This film by all accounts should have done better. Clive Owen is a real talent and Roberts has something left in the tank. Her audience, which I was never one of, seems to have abandoned her. It's bad that the studios didn't get this right. They market this almost as a classic Julia Roberts vehicle but that audience does not like these movies. The people who do like these sorts of films have no interest because it was marketed as Julia Roberts fare. Rent it for a dollar from Redbox. It's somewhat interesting, looks really good and it pays off once the pieces are where they belong.
