Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Matt O — 01 Feb 2018
I mean, come on. 92 percent? 81 percent audience? How?? What is the deal with this one, seriously? A god awful movie. No one I've come into contact with who has had the misfortune to sit through this yawner has.
Told me that they even remotely enjoyed the film.
This is perplexing. Some nice visuals, but other than that, there is nothing cinematic about this experience. No dialogue, and the dialogue that is int he movie is nothing notable.
In a movie that is supposed to be intensely realistic, there is a baffling story line that involves a shaken soldier pushing over a young teen and.
Accidentally killing them. The father on board the vessel and his son (friend of the young man who was just killed) decide that they are just going to sweep this under the rug, because the soldier is clearly disturbed and distressed from his battle experiences. They give him a ride back to the main land, and never speak of it again. What the hell? The kid even publishes some fake news story about his dead friend dying heroically. Like, no questions are asked? No body wants answers for this kid who returned home dead? So stupid. Just there for the sake of story.
The movie felt off-kilter and just all wrong. Dunkirk was a tragic event, and a great historical story. That being said, this movie sucks. Not a fun experience. Not really an emotionally impact experience. Not anything. Just a bad movie.
Again, the Oscars are a freaking joke this year.
