Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Jake C — 28 Dec 2017
Christopher Nolan strikes again with an excellent retelling of the events surrounding one of the turning points of the 20th century. His careful treatment of the emotions of soldiers and civilians alike is lifted tremendously by Hans Zimmer's aural work.
The music provides a palpable tension that hits crescendo just as the most powerful characters, Fionn Whitehead's Tommy and Mark Rylance's Mr. Dawson finally meet. Though the twisted chronology was perhaps at times better suited for earlier efforts like Inception, Nolan's story pays respect to the men of Britain and the fact that the Dunkirk evacuation is to be remembered fondly.
