Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Bob%20 L — 04 Dec 2017
This could have been a great movie. The dogfights between the Spitfires and ME-109's were spectacular, the bombing and strafing of the British troops and ships were realistic. The uniforms and equipment of the soldiers and sailors were spot on. The epic story of the Dunkirk evacuation seemed historically accurate. Yes, this could have been a great movie. But it wasn't.
The characters, hero and villain alike, failed to develop. Most had no name. The dialog was hard to follow, due to the heavy British accents (OK, I get that) combined with the incessant noise. Yes I understand war is noisy. But this movie was nonstop noise. Whenever there was a break from the bombing and shooting, my ears where bombarded by the incessant "music." Honestly, the whine from the dive bombers was less irritating than the musical score.
By the end, I was exhausted, not from the tension of the plot, but from the constant noise. Not good.
