Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Josh K — 03 Aug 2017
This is visually amazing, hands down one of the best looking movies I have seen. If all of the effects were practical my gosh I know where the budget was. I watched it in a tight theatre and it was very loud and it made me realize how amazing sound effects could be.
The soundtrack was very subdued and a little forgettable. My friend pointed out the lack of gore, and I have a suspect that they had literally no budget for gore if the effects were all practical. Honestly I didn't care about the gore, I didn't need a Saving Private Ryan situation, but a little would've been nice.
The plot was a little scattered, I know it's a historical film, and they couldn't take as many artistic liberties as one could take with a war film. It all came together in the end and it was nice.
If I could give a quarter star I would but I don't think it's deserving of 4.5 stars (unfortunately).
