Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Marcus E — 30 Jul 2017
A well â??made' movie, exhibiting some deft filmmaking and impressive scale, but as a piece of entertainment it wasn't anywhere near as gripping as Nolan's earlier films. I appreciated the overlapping action from the different perspectives (air, land, sea) and the imposing use of real extras; but the end product was less gripping than I expected for an auteur with this reputation - and a subject as inherently fascinating as World War II.
As the shortest of ALL Christopher Nolan's major releases (what!?), I canâ??t help wondering if Iâ??d have been more engaged/empathetic with another 30 min of character development inserted. B+.
