Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Tarun S — 27 Jul 2017
This will be probably the most thrilling movie of the year. And only Christopher Nolan can get away with it. Cinematography wise, sound wise, and acting wise, Dunkirk is top notch in all of them. There wasn't a single shot in this movie that didn't look convincing, everything looked legitimate and real. Which is incredibly rare for a Hollywood film these days.
The story structure is very clever in how it tells this real event in Belgium, following 3 different points of view in the mission. The soldiers surviving on the beach, the pilots flying the air support planes, and the British civilians attempting to rescue their men from Dunkirk. Each view takes place in a different time span, and is very smart in how it does it, with certain scenes overlapping one another at the same time frame.
Nolan brought his skills up yet again with this WW2 masterpiece, and it's absolutely necessary to see it in IMAX. Seeing it on any other screen just wouldn't cut it.
