Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Khalid%20 D — 21 Jul 2017
In the obsessed era of remakes, reboots and sequels, Nolan always manages to enliven the cinematographic world with cerebral and nonlinear storytellings. Acclaimed as the Stanley Kubrick of his generation, and rightfully so, Hollywood is soon going to run out of genres for Nolan to redefine.
Although being riveted to my seat from scene 1 due to non-stop stunning visuals and audios, I noticed that the storyline was incredibly slow and simplistic for a Nolan extravaganza. I understand that it's supposed to be a realistic and historically accurate movie but realism doesn't necessarily make a movie entertaining.
Despite depicting moments of harrowing intensity and humanity, there is not a great deal of time devoted to individual characters to cling on to emotionally. The emotional impact of the movie comes from witnessing the spectacle and placing yourself in the situation.
I would rather call it an epic war documentary than anything else. Nonetheless, kudos to Nolan.
