Review of Dunkirk (2017) by Miller S — 21 Jul 2017
This film was disappointing. I expected a kind of docudrama similar to "Hacksaw Ridge" but DUNKIRIK was more a diirector's self glorifying effort similar to "Windtalkers" with little development of the whole story.
While the filming itself was well done but the bang!, bang!, bang! that flooded the background throughout the entire movie was distracting and intolerable. The acting was stiff and contrived to the point of wondering when someone would actually make a point about, well, anything.
At one point some British soldiers became involved in a pathetic banal drama scene with a French soldier to the point of disgust. Most of all, what really disappointed me was the failure to develop the storyline of how the British admiralty engaged the civilian boatsmen to participate in such a dangerous task and of the sacrifices the civilians did make.
The omly reason I gave two starts is that the film does have some visual entertainment value but not so much that I would pay to see it again. The special affects and vast scenes were well done.
