Review of Dungeons & Dragons (2000) by Richard V — 18 Feb 2009
Dammit, I wanted to like this. I wanted it to be so bad it was good. I wanted a guilty pleasure that indulged my 'old school fantasy' bone. I got pap. Justin Whalin wasn't convincing as comic's most 1d character, Jimmy Olsen, so his Thief turned (erm, Level 2) Paladin is a joke.
Marlon Wayans destroys the 4th wall and is leaves one feeling that you're watching Scary Movie, which is fine if that's what your watching. I won't comment on Thora Birch - it's not polite to kick someone so normally talented when they are down.
Jeremy Irons...why? Only good performance...Tom Baker, spouting utter nonsense and make it sound enjoyable, clear and sensible. The man oozes class...and with respect to Tom, when a 4 minute cameo not only steals the film, but reminds you what could have been, its a sad thing.
....watch LOTR or Stardust or 10th Kingdom instead.
