The bathroom humor probably turns some off, but it's not where the fun of the movie comes from. The fact that Jim Carrey can hold this character above any other character he's played and not overact the part is brilliant.
Yes, it would be hard to overplay a nitwit, but he does an awesome job. Jeff Daniels is almost as funny, and the two of them have really great chemistry. This is a classic comedy. It's the first slapstick I'll be showing my son one day.
