Review of Due Date (2010) by Adam F — 16 Jun 2012
Due Date is one of those movies where you can enjoy it for what it is, a buddy-come-together-through-fire-and-brimstone type movie. There are points where you sort of feel for the characters but only for a millisecond and I think that's where this movie comes apart.
Road trip/confined space type movies need very good chemistry between the two actors, and the audience has to see that the evolution of hatred from one to another goes away and that the "manlove", so to speak, is genuine and not forced by the situation.
Unfortunately, I don't believe Downey and Galifanakis pulled that feat off. To their credit it is almost impossible when the script is pretty much just about jokes and hi-jinx.
