Review of Drunken Master (1978) by David D — 15 Apr 2008
Too often compared to its sequel. For its time this was the definitive kung fu flick and even by today's standards it still is. This is Yuen Wo Ping and Jackie Chan's magnum opus. Yuen Siu Tien shines as Sam Seed (depending on what dub track you have) and the villain played by Hwang Jang Lee has never surpassed the incredible work he puts in here.
The fights are flawless, the comedy is thick and hilarious and this film is THE kung fu movie to have. Ignore the nay sayers and those that complain the second one is better. You can buy the sequel later.
Get this slice of genius first.
