Review of Drunken Master (1978) by Anthony W — 03 Sep 2008
Despite dating back to 1978, this is a true gem of a martial arts comedy movie that, along with "Snake In The Eagle's Shadow", made a star out of Jackie Chan and is also an early chance to see the work of Yuen Wo-Ping (who directed it).
Jackie's trademark humour (which is thankfully largely visual) harks back to the silent comedians of the past, while his battle against Hwang Jang Lee is a true delight to behold as he uses the drunken fist style to try and defeat his opponent before his lethal bootwork destroys him! If you like action and comedy check it out! Beware of dreadful dialogue if you're watching an English dubbed version.
