Review of Drunken Master (1978) by Janie P — 18 Oct 2012
List of pluses and minuses:
+ lots and lots of fight scenes.
- the humor is too childish for my taste.
+ Lots of the visual humor is funny.
- some of the fights are a bit odd, for instance a person is kicked in the forehead and he holds his stomach after that as if he was kicked there. Or a person is hit in the head and instantly huge hit-marks appear there. Its just outlandish.
+ the chinese characters are well imagined although a bit caricature.
- The film stops a bit too abruptly to a fight. Its not a big problem with the movie its just that the film deserved in my view some kind of ending, now it just stops abruptly after a fight.
There is more than enough fighting. Its a bit too obviously planned and choreographical acrobatics. I have seen the sequel to this and I think it is very much better, but this is not a bad movie, except for the stupid jokes and a bit over acrobatic choreography.
