Review of Drunken Master (1978) by Ryan J — 10 Dec 2010
Jackie Chan's really just a Kung Fu Buster Keaton/Gene Kelly hybrid, and I can't imagine up a higher compliment. The whole thing is a concoction to take us from one fight scene to another, but the ballet of kicks and punches is dizzying, sometimes captivating, and always astonishing.
Its obession with the HIT of every blow borders on fetishistic, but this is an absurd movie. It's about the fighting, which is truly awesome, and it creates a fun world-- one in which everyone in China is a Kung Fu master.
