Review of Drunken Angel (1948) by Joe G — 20 Oct 2010
Another brilliant Kurosawa film with main stays Mifune and Shimura, both of course give great performances as the yakuza with tuberculosis and the drunken doctor. I believe this is actually the first Kurosawa-Mifune collaboration, which in and of itself make it a must see.
Along with that, this movie deals with the themes of modernity, morality, and even America's occupation of Japan. Truly a hallmark film.
