Review of Drumline (2002) by Ouine C — 01 Jan 2009
The movie is not exactly that spectacular however I do enjoy the Marching Bands performances. I like also when Dr. Lee didn't allow Devon to join the Finals. It was somehow anti-climactic in the beginning because despite Devon's cocky ways, he is the best drum player the University has. But then again as a viewer it made me accept yep, not everything should be given a silver platter no matter how talented you are, you have to earn, be disciplined by and be humble.
I was about to accept the ending of Devon not performing but I'm delighted that after accepting that not-so-happy and so-called ending, I like the twist. Indeed it showed how Devon grew as a person, how he almost was piqued an loose temper against the other school's final showdown, in the end as their captain said. When they play the drum no matter how good you are, they would still hear the whole band.
In the end, is knowing when and where to shine and knowing what must be done when you're on the line - specifically in the drumline!
The supporting actors had their own development but the story still focused on Devon, the captain and of course Dr. Lee.
