Review of Drugstore Cowboy (1989) by Bojana B — 16 Jan 2008
A realistic portrayal of drug addicts who steal for their fixes all while crossroading. This one, fittingly, played off just like a William S. Burroughs novel. Seeing as how he had a fantastic cameo performance in this film as a junkie priest it's perfect.
Great atmosphere along with a great script and acting combine to make a pretty gritty portrayal of junkies and the life the one's who steal live. The fact that I work at a pharmacy increases my interest in this film for obvious reasons.
The only complaint I have on the film is that I don't feel as though it captured it's time era of the early 70's very well. I found myself forgetting that this film was set in the 70's at times.
All in all, this is a well crafted and fantastic tale put onto the screen in an effective nature.
