Review of Drop Dead Fred (1991) by Smartyjones C — 06 Nov 2009
There are movies you sometimes don't want to admit to loving. It's not a cinematic masterpiece. It's not brilliant storytelling. The acting may not be Academy Award-worthy. And yet... I do love it. Rik Mayall is raucous and over the top and completely mad - and totally captivating. The last fifteen or so minutes are all the more sensitive and poignant for the giddy, childish insanity that came before. In addition to Mayall, the supporting cast great. Carrie Fisher in particular has some entertaining scenes.
It's one of those polarizing "love it or hate it" films. It's also worth a second chance.
