Review of Driving Miss Daisy (2015) by Caleb M — 09 Feb 2009
The only reason I watched this was because it won Best Picture (yes, I'm one of THOSE people). I wasn't expecting to like it very much, if at all, but something about the simplicity and warmth of the screenplay grabbed me, and I found myself excited and enjoying the film immensely.
While the message may not be very original, or subtle, it's still moving and a treat to watch. Tandy, Freeman and Aykroyd are excellent, and the production design is nearly flawless. The beggining scenes with Aykroyd and Freeman meeting have some impressive factory wharehouse sets.
Haney, Barber and Rocchetti also deserved their Oscar for makeup, they help the characters age so well you almost don't realise they really aren't that old.
