Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Ashley R — 20 Dec 2007
An elegant and subtle comedy on the coming of age of a boy brought up in a strict religious upbringing.
Rupert Grint will amaze you in his role. This is the first movie I have seen him in outside the Harry Potter series, and he proved to be a A-grade actor. He has it in him to become a great actor. Julie Walters plays an eccentric retired actress perfectly.
The movie reminds you of Scent of a Woman at many a scenes. Though the plot is, as far as I have seen, unique - the script is not the best one you will see. There are a lot of places where the flow of the movie breaks and creates unneccesary diversions which reduces the effectivess of the plot.
Though not one of the best movies you will see on the subject of coming of age for a boy, this one deserves a watch purely for the excellent performance of a rising star.
