Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Aubrey S — 19 Nov 2013
The movie Driving Lesson by Jeremy Brock was a movie that was interesting and had a different twist to it. I liked it more than I disliked it but if I had to say whether I would watch it again and if it was worth it I would say no to both of those.
The actual picture of the movie taken was not that great of quality. The characters in the movie where well played throughout most of the movie. The way the movie starts out is not very clear and deffinently not the beginning of a movie that would lead the way it was to go.
The setting though was good for the movie having it be in a small quite innocent place just like Ben. Then the exploration of all the big cities and other places in Europe being the idea of the much bigger world outside of what he thinks life is.
The scenes that too place also were good in showing his life and what it was like before he left to go off to college back in his boring non-fulfilling life he was living. The beginning was confusing with the family situation and would have liked to have a better understanding about the kid and his background of his living situation it would have cleared a lot more up to get a good understanding of what kind of kid Ben was.
The title of the movie was giving me a completely different look at the movie and made me expect others things from the movie. As the movie went on the title and all the story tied in together the title being called driving lessons made sense.
The way I see the title now is driving lessons as a time of age when you are growing up to be able to drive and make your own decision in life and the person taking control of the wheel as in the way Ben took control of his life and went the way he wanted to go and stopped letting this mom decide his life for him.
The movie was a great way to show maturing and growing up and making decisions for your self. Decent movie with a lot of meaning, good setting, decently good played out characters, but can be quite confusing, dry, and expected during others.
Would have liked to have more clarity throughout and more comedy with it being a dramatic comedy.
