Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Sugeiny T — 15 Jun 2008
I think the perfect word to describe this movie is cute. There's a cute factor to it from beginning to end that other movies of its kind not necessairly have. Julie Walters gives an extraordinary performance, as annoying (intentional) as she may be she is definitely love-a-ble and understable.
True, her character may be unrealistic and even cliché at times, but she does it so well that it works. Laura Linney, God bless her! I adore her, she is a fantastic actress, but her character was just messed up and for all the bad reasons.
It was all probably intentional, but I just didn't love her here, I was mostly angry at her throughout the whole movie, don't know if that's a good thing or not. To see Rupert Grint in a different character from Ron Weasly is definitely nice.
Trust me, he does not dissapoint, he's lovely as usual, and very believable. That emptiness that's inside his character is portrayed here by him in a near perfect way. As far as the plot goes, is simple, yet full of many discussion points.
That's always a good thing when we are gonna talk about a screenplay. Bottom line, the movie is enjoyable and really nice. I approve!
